There's an option now to let people you're not following DM you on Twitter if you want

I don’t want that though, I’d get a lot of DMs I don’t want. If you’re a model who needs me to follow you, but for whatever reason you don’t want to ask me publicly on Twitter, just message me your @ handle here.
